Have you ever been in a serious depression? Did you ever reveal a complete despair? Did you try once to say that you are all through, and that everything you had built up over your lifetime had been swept away?
Let’s imagine the moment when you say this: « I have nothing left at all. Everything is gone. There is no hope, and it’s too late to start all over again. I have lost all faith ».
By saying that, you seem that you have a terrible disbelief in yourself, you have no confidence. You just don’t believe you can put it over. You are very discouraged and depressed, and you think that you’re just about ruined. In fact, you have been tormented by inferiority feelings, by lack of confidence, and by self-doubt. It’s evident that your principal trouble is the fact that dark shadows of hopelessness had entered your mind and discolored your outlook, distorting it.
The best question to ask in such a situation is: “How can I get some faith in myself?”
Lack of self-confidence is one of the most difficult personal problems. Everywhere you meet people who are inwardly afraid, who suffer from a deep sense of inadequacy and insecurity, who doubt their own powers. Deep within themselves they mistrust their ability to meet responsibilities or to grasp opportunities. Always they are obsessed by the fear that something is not going to be quite right.
People with lack of confidence do not believe that they have it in them to be what they want to be, and so they try to make themselves content with something less than that of which they are capable.
It is terrible to realize the number of pathetic people who are made miserable by this malady popularly called the inferiority complex. But you do not need to suffer from this trouble. When proper steps are taken, it can be overcome. By developing creative faith in yourself, inferiority complex can be perfectly cured.
